In The Beginning...

Seventeen More To Go!

Why does Ohio State think that they are in the same league as Michigan when Michigan has beaten them seventeen more times?????????????

Adams Gets "Block O" Rolling

Dublin Coffman OT Mike Adams reportedly offered his verbal commitment to Ohio State today. Adams is regarded by many as the best prospect in Ohio and as one of the top offensive linemen in the country for 2008. He was at Ohio State for their Pro Day this weekend, along with a number of other Buckeye targets.

Ohio State missed on a number of top lineman last year, including Piscataway, NJ's Anthony Davis. Davis stunned experts by reneging on a silent verbal to Ohio State and selected upstart Rutgers over the #1 team in the nation. But this year's potential recruits could render Davis as a forgotten footnote in Buckeye recruiting history. Over the course of the last year, Adams has connected with some of Ohio State's other offensive line prospects. His friendship with Mike Brewster, J.B. Shugarts and Kyle Long have OSU fans dreaming of their best offensive line class ever. Brewster is also considering Florida and USC, while Long is looking at Virginia and a professional baseball career. Shugarts has narrowed his list down to 6, including Oklahoma, Michigan, LSU and Texas A&M. Shugarts is the least likely to become a Buckeye. Keep an eye on Josh Jenkins, who is currently committed to West Virginia but has visiting Ohio State twice this spring.

Buckeyes, Badgers Meet for Title

Despite a sluggish shooting performance, #1 Ohio State beat Purdue 63-52. Greg Oden was unstoppable, scoring 17 points and setting a Big Ten tournament record with 19 rebounds. The second-seeded Wisconsin Badgers beat the Fighting Illini, in a yet another low-scoring, ugly affair. Tip off for the title is set for 3:30pm eastern on CBS. The two teams split their home-and-home series.

Though this is a odd year for top seeds, history says Ohio State might already have their #1 seed locked up, even with a loss Sunday.

Big Day for the Big Ten Bubble

Purdue and Illinois took big steps toward NCAA berths on Saturday, as both team won key quarterfinal games. Purdue manhandled fourth-seeded Iowa, while Illinois beat Indiana in OT on a "neutral" court in Chicago. While both are in a strong position to receive an invitation, losses by Nevada and Xavier are a huge blow to the at-large contenders.

A win in the semis against Ohio State or Wisconsin would almost certainly punch a ticket to the Big Dance. OSU/Purdue tips at 1:40 eastern, while Wisconsin/Illinois is scheduled for 4:05. Both games will be televised by CBS.

Buckeyes Advance to the Semis, 72-62

As expected, #1 Ohio State cruised past eighth-seeded Michigan in the Big Ten quarterfinals, 72-62. The Wolverines were much sharper than in their slugfest with Minnesota, but could not overcome Greg Oden's 22 points and 4 blocks. Michigan is likely headed to the NIT...again. How much longer will Michigan tolerate Tommy Amaker? Apparently his wife is a prolific fund-raiser in the Michigan academic community, so the UM administration is hesitant to can Amaker. But there a point diminishing returns, as boosters and fans are beyond disgusted with this performance. Bottom line: this is the Big Ten. Don't bring a mock turtleneck wearing Dookie in this conference and expect to succeed.

Ohio State - Breaking Down the Quarterbacks

The Buckeyes must fill the fleet-footed shoes of Heisman trophy winner (and Michigan killer) Troy Smith. The job is open heading into spring camp, with redshirt junior Todd Boeckman holding the inside edge. Redshirt sophomore Rob Schoenhoft will also get a look, while redshirt freshman Antonio Henton is probably a year away from competing.

It will be an interesting transition for the Buckeyes, as Boeckman and Schoenhoft were recruited in the Krenzel-Zwick mold, while Henton is a Smith-syle dual threat QB. Tressel's history of loyalty to his upperclassmen means Boeckman will most certain get the early starts. With a light nonconference schedule, the situation may not be settled until Big Ten play is underway.

From a recruiting standpoint, QB is a medium priority for the 2008 class. Ohio State would ideally like to have 4 QB's on the roster, so they may add former commit Joe Bauserman to the roster. Bauserman was a three-star from Florida who opted for a baseball career with the Pirates. Shoulder injuries have slowed his progress in baseball, and he visited OSU this year to explore his options. Given the limited number of scholarships available this year, Buckeyes fans are hoping that Bauserman will walk-on.

Five-star PA QB Terrelle Pryor has drawn comparison to Vince Young and would be an ideal fit for the Buckeyes new spread option. But Pryor may be hard to pry away from Pittsburgh or Penn State, and he's also hearing from out-of-state powers like USC and Florida. Pryor is also a highly rated basketball player, and may be looking for a situation where he can play both sports. Ohio State will look at a number of in-state prospects at their camp, including Rivals250 member Domonick Britt. When all is said and done, look for OSU to land one dual-threat QB from the south.
