Berry Visits Columbus, Joins Buckeyes

The Buckeyes started their season Saturday with excitement, and later, horror, when Beanie Wells was carted off the field. But during the euphoria and worrying, a unannounced guest was in the 'Shoe. It was none other than RB Jaamal Berry, perhaps the top remaining target for Ohio State's 2009 class.

Though the Buckeyes were considered the favorite for his services, Berry indicated that he would take his official visits and not commit anytime soon. But after visiting OSU with his Mom, he pulled the trigger. His commitment is the 25th for OSU's top rated class, completing an incredible running back trio. The verbal leaves just a few spots open with more than five months before signing day.

Considered one of the nation's elite players at his position, Berry is ranked as the #5 back (#35 overall) in the country by Scout.com and #6 by Rivals.com (#44 overall). He was timed at 4.31 at a combine earlier this year. He had offers from national powers like Florida, Clemson, Florida State, and Michigan.

Not sure that Berry, Hyde, and Hall will all attend Ohio State. I could see Hyde changing his mind before February.

That's very possible - I wrote earlier that it wouldn't be a surprise to see a player or two de-commit before February. I think Hyde and Berry would be good complements to each other, but OSU will be fine either way. They'll have 2 years of Saine, 3 years of Herron, and whatever backs come in with the '09 class. Though I'm not sure ohow Jordan Hall will be used' he seems like less of a slot guy than Lamaar Thomas, so we'll have to see.
