Buckeyes Add Power Back for #19

With Maurice Wells graduating and Beanie Wells likely to take his considerable talents to the NFL, the Buckeyes are hoping to bring in a great class of running backs to replenish the depth chart. The first piece was Jordan Hall, a versatile player that can line up all over the field. But Hall doesn't project as a traditional back, and OSU would like a couple of other elite prospects to come to Columbus.

The first of those two pieces is now in place, with powerful Carlos Hyde verballing today. Hyde hails from Naples, FL but has family in the Cincinnati area. He had offers from Florida, Florida State and a number of other top programs. Hyde is rated as a 4-star prospect for both Scout.com and Rivals.com.

Because of his size, both recruiting services list him as a fullback - Scout has him #1 in the country, and Rivals #2. But Hyde won't be lining up as a blocker in the Ohio State offense, where you might find Jermil Martin, Adam Homan, or Zach Boren. Hyde was recruited as a punishing, power runner in the mold of the aforementioned Wells or even the hardly mentioned Maurice Clarett. On film he shows strong a ability to turn the corner for a back his size and solid vision to cutback once he gets there.

The Buckeyes will continue to recruit 4-star Jamaal Berry, but this commitment goes a long way toward solidifying the backfield of the future.
