Ohio State hosted a number of their top remaining targets, along with some of their best commits. A quick check on the pulse of Buckeye recruiting...
Terrelle Pryor: You can believe the confident folks who believe Pryor is a done deal. You can pull your hair out with the doubters who think that disaster could strike at any moment and from any direction, whether it's Oregon, West Virginia, Penn State, Florida or Tennessee. The truth is probably in between. Ohio State is likely the leader at this time, but there's still some ball left to be played. It would be a huge relief to have Pryor announce at the Army All-American game, where he's rooming with none other than Mike Brewster. Buckeye Nation will be really sweating out any visits he takes....
Keith Wells: The stud DE from Georgia had a great time in Columbus. Whether that translates into anything...we'll see. He'll be taking some other visits, so the positive vibes could just fade into the background. But OSU made some strides, and the other recruits will try to keep the momentum moving forward.
Shayne Hale: Barring a mass exodus of juniors, there's probably only one slot for him or Wells. Still no clear word on whether they're pursing him as a linebacker or a WDE. Personally, I think Hale will end up some place where he can be the big fish, whether that's Pittsburgh or Virginia.
Josh Jenkins: Flip a coin and see if it lands on its side. All of the quotes and rumors coming out his visit were extremely encouraging. But he's still committed to West Virginia, and he clearly is not looking forward to letting down his home state team. Word is that a decision might not come until Signing Day, which means the coaches must have promised him a spot no matter what. Historically Ohio State has not fared well in situations like this, so I still can't confidently project him as a Buckeye.
Cordale Scott: Since he's from Glenville, his recruitment has not generated any buzz or worry among OSU fans. Scott takes an official to Illinois next week, where Ron Zook has quietly started making some waves in Ohio. At this juncture, there's no cause for concern. But stay tuned for Scott's post-visit comparison. Breaking into the Glenville pipeline would cause an huge uproar for OSU fans.
We'll check in on some of the longer-shot recruits like Brandon Thompson and Ben Jones later this week...
